When it happens and a relationship ends, do you still need to go through the grieving process?

How do you grieve? And in my case how do you help a friend grieve without crossing the line and interferring? Do you honor the process, and eventually manage to get to the stage where your losses no longer hurt you?

Are able to move forward with a totally open heart, or do you get emotionally stuck in one part of the cycle?

Depends on if it was your decision to end it or not I guess. Grieving over what could have been is natural but I think you can also grieve out of a sense of your own failure. Make any sense?
