PostSubject: Tattoos - artwork, meaningful or pretty coloured in pieces of interest?   Tue Dec 16, 2008 4:24 am

Having been a fairly recent initiate into the world of inkage, I was 39 - I was wondering if other people had reasons for getting theirs done?

My first was like a rite of passage for me - other than being shit scared of needles, not a big fan of pain and had always been seen as the 'respectable' one in just about any group I was a part of (go figure! lol). 20 mins of relative suffering after a split second decision - and I walked away a happy girl - and yes I was already planning my next one.
1st one is a memory of my best friend, but not a direct association of her - she died and I didn't want to impose her on me energetically - it's a witch thing lol.
Very generic, but it's a good one for me

Second one, I only have two, was a lot larger, a lot more thought out and planned, more pricey and a lot more ouchies - 3.5hrs worth.
This one is extremely personal - it's on facebook but not many people know the true meaning behind it. Once I figure out how to load pictures on here, I will put it up.

Now I know many of you have inkage, so cough up people

I was in my very early 20's when I had my first one done ... a treble clef on my bikini line which I later covered over with a dragon sitting atop a sunset (I went through an anti music stage there for a while and it just felt right to rework it). The one round my ankle actually hides a scar from ligament surgery, plus I have since had the treble clef (albeit a slightly fancier version) put on the back of my neck.

The one over my rib cage is obviously self explanatory and depicts my passion for music, plus I have two more in the works at the moment ... a bass clef interwoven pattern that is going round my wrist, and a guitar with the notes of my favourite tune flowing through it that a friend of mine is designing which will be my last ink most likely.

The original ones were done at a time when it wasn't 'acceptable' for females to have tattoos and piercings, and my father only discovered the one round my ankle quite by accident a few years back ... you have no idea the lengths I've gone to over the decades to hide it from him pmsl.

Not me. I is allergic to pain. Went with Benj when she got the one on her ankle done, and the smell of burning flesh and the sound of the needle vibrating will remain etched in my memory for decades to come.

Mind you, give me half a bottle of whisky and the same tattoo artist (hubba hubba) and I may reconsider.

Don't have any tattoos at all, but I do like them on men. Not scattered all over the place, but a couple of well done ones on the arms will always catch my eye. I'd probably get one small tattoo or a piercing done if I wasn't such a fraidy cat. But Max's comment about the smell of burning flesh just turned me off them for life I think and after the Benj/Dave piercing entanglement that everyone still laughs about I think I can do without getting my tongue pierced. My belly button maybe. If I ever work up the courage to enquire.

I have one around my upper arm that I simply chose because I liked the look of it, and another directly above it that is in rememberance of Paul my brother. I've also got his full name and date of birth on my leg in chinese.

The one on my shoulder blade and back is of an American Indian and was designed by Benj's friend Eric (who is a full blood Apache) and can I just say that the guys at Tattoo magic in Bayswater did one heck of a job taking it from his original drawing to the ink it is today, although the guy almost had a heart attack trying to do it justice. Will try and see if I can find a pic of it to put up.

Been addicted to ink since my late teens, but some of the earlier ones I regret. Must make an effort to get em recoloured as alot of the ink has dropped right out of them. One of the best I've seen though is the one of the drumkit Luka has. Cool stuff and really well done. Should get him to put up a pic.

I'll try and post a pic of my favourites later on this evening if I can remember how on earth to do it.

Arrgghh, I just attempted to post one of mine, and it came out so large you literally had to scroll across and down the page just to see it! One more try, before I quit.

Not one word about the freckles ... not a single, solitary word.

Always liked that one Benj, although you can't see the shading properly in black and white woman.

Ok, this ones my latest. Only just out of the lovely itching stage.

Oh nice tatts!!

I've got two, one on my toe that still needs further work & one behind my hair on my neck..

I didn't plan on getting them, with the toe one I wanted to just experment & know how it felt.. (can anyone say holy shit in hell!!!?) bad idea..

The one on my neck was simply because I liked what the symbol stood for & the stencil happened into my hands..

I'd like to get another now though, but time will tell if I go through with it..

I've just seen the new one on Benj's lower back.

Not that I'm gloating or anything
